Classic Martini Recipe

For every bartender or person that likes to make cocktail drinks themselves, then how to make the classic martini should be at their fingertips. There are various ways to make a classic martini;

  • One can use either gin or vodka (gin is the classic choice though)
  • One can put a little vermouth or even none at all
  • The cocktail can either be stirred or shaken
  • The cocktail can have either a lemon twist or an olive for garnish

The most classic choice would be gin, an equal amount of vermouth (1:1), stirred with an olive. The amount of vermouth will be the biggest variable for taste.

People usually refer to many other kinds of drinks as martinis. The recipe provided here is original when compared to the other kinds of classic gin martin recipes out there.

Classic Martini Variations

Despite being a fairly simple drink, this is one of the most variable drinks out there. The variations of the martini come from not only the quantity of ingredients by the substitution of ingredients (gin vs vodka for example). These variations come about as result of personal preferences of the drinker. They include;

Dry Martini

The less vermouth involved in a martini, the more “dry” it’s considered. A dry martini has an increased gin:vermouth ratio. Usually, 2:1 is considered a proper dry martini.

Bone Dry/Desert Martini

In this type of classic martini there is no vermouth used at all.

With the Gibson classic martini, the garnished used is a cocktail onion.

Perfect Martini

In this type of classic martini, equal parts of sweet and dry vermouth are used.

Dirty Martini

A dirty martini is whereby one uses a small amount of olive brine.

50-50 Martini

Since other variations are more common than the classic concoction, this is the term used to order the classic martini. In this variation, the gin and dry vermouth used are of equal amounts.

Vodka Martini

This is when one uses vodka as an alternative to gin, usually done as per the drinkers’ preferences.

The classic martini has proved to be one of the most loved and widely consumed cocktail drinks. The legendary film character, James Bond (Agent 007), brought about the drinks popularity all over the world. Despite the fact that the classic martini comes in two main types, which is gin and vodka and made in two main ways, either stirred or shaken, the original classic gin martini remains highly popular among discerning drinkers. With the drink being easy to make, having fine taste and superb quality, the classic gin martini will continue to be stirred and shaken in bars, nightclubs and even at home. The drink grows in popularity day by day and each person introduced to the drink goes on to love and appreciate it.
